The motorized zoom beam expander from Special Optics is a PC-compatible lens system for varying spot sizes in laser scanning systems, zoom imaging and lab research. Fused silica input groups and a five-element design that reduces the internal focus enable the beam expander to withstand higher damage threshold than three- or four-element lens designs. The system features a serial interface with an RS-485 converter and controller software written in LabView for integration into other automated laboratory instruments. A 450- to 1100-nm usable wavelength range is standard; other models are available for use at 248 to 400 nm or 10.6 µm.
