Smart Ultracompact Diode Laser
VICTOR. N.Y., Oct. 14, 2009 – Toptica Photonics Inc. has announced the iBeam smart ultracompact OEM diode laser that allows users to increase productivity and reliability in their applications, while optimizing the weight and size of their systems.

The laser is a true one-box solution that measures only 100 × 40 × 40 mm3, including the integrated controller, and can upgrade almost any existing diode laser application. This is made possible by a highly integrated intelligent microprocessor-based electronic setup in combination with the mechanical optical design.

Toptica_iBeam.jpgThe advanced integrated laser controller allows the laser to be compact and powerful. It delivers 150-mW single-mode operation at 660 nm.

Complex and fast analog modulation procedures can be performed, and the proprietary feedback-induced noise eraser, which protects against optical feedback, comes as a standard function. With its power stability, noise levels of <0.5% rms from 10 Hz to 100 MHz and a TEM00 beam with M² of <1.2, the laser is suitable for use in applications such as flow cytometry and confocal microscopy.

The device achieves power levels of 120 mW at 405 nm, 50 mW at 445 nm, 30 mW at 488 nm, 100 mW at 640 nm, and 150 mW at 642 and 660 nm. Additional wavelengths include 375, 473, 643 and 785 nm, with others available upon request. Power stability is <0.5 % drift over 48 h. Wavefront error is <0.05 λ, pointing stability is <5 µrad/°C, and beam diameter is ~1.1 mm at 1/e2.
Ellipticity is <10%, full angle beam divergence is <1 mrad, linear polarization is >100:1, and power consumption is <20 W with 6 W typical. Operating temperature ranges from 15 to 40 °C, and weight is 280 g.

Easy and reliable control of all laser parameters and status reports is achieved by the RS-232 serial interface and a standard terminal software package. The electronic setup includes analog modulation up to 2 MHz.

The iBeam smart is available upon request at all standard diode laser wavelengths from the UV to the IR.

Typical applications include microlithography, retina scanning, fluorescein angiography and microplate readout.
