CAMBRIDGE, England, Aug. 28, 2012 — The iBox Explorer2 imaging microscope manufactured by UVP LLC now features expanded capabilities for detection of fluorescent markers in small animals. With magnification from whole mouse to individual cells, it advances cancer research studies. Researchers can now visualize tumor margins and micro metastasis with magnifications from 0.17× to 16.5×. The new upright optics provide an ultralong working distance and high numerical aperture for detailed, exacting in vivo imaging research.
Designed to transition from the macroscopic to the microscopic scale, the microscope permits deeper interrogation of a fluorescent signal in real time. Scientists imaging whole animals for tumor tracking or biodistribution will be able to probe deeper to investigate biological phenomena at the cellular level.
Detailed images of tissues and cells are produced with the cooled scientific-grade CCD camera. VisionWorks LS software automates research and enables easy creation of templates for reproducible and consistent results.
The BioLite Xe light source provides bright illumination for multispectral fluorescence, visible and NIR excitation. It houses a 150-W xenon lamp that supplies brilliant excitation of fluorescent probes. It has an eight-position emission filter wheel and offers convenient switching between experiments and multiplexing applications.
Applications include tumor shedding and angiogenesis; micro/macro metastases; tumor/host margins and interactions; tumor micro environment; primary tumor growth; hematogenous and intralymphatic trafficking; extravasation and biodistribution.
