Photometrics Ltd. has announced the Prime sCMOS camera for life sciences research, which avoids the negative impact of Poisson noise in low-light images.

The 4.2-MP camera features a field-programmable gate array (FPGA)-based embedded signal processing engine, enabling signal restoration and feature detection for localization-based superresolution microscopy. The capabilities increase image clarity and provide new ways to address data glut.

The PrimeEnhance feature reduces the effects of photon shot noise and provides a 3× to 5× increase in signal-to-noise ratio, extending cell lifetimes and enabling the capture of higher-quality data. PrimeLocate actively detects and transfers the regions containing localization data, lowering data storage requirements.

A native PCI-Express interface enables 100-fps imaging at full resolution, while a USB3 interface is also offered for convenience.
