OBERSULM, Germany, April 18, 2011 — Microsoft Windows opens new possibilities for connecting multimedia equipment directly and conveniently with DirectX. The DirectShow component is the interface for cameras. With the current-version interface of the same name, Imaging Development Systems GmbH also offers a universal connection option that supports nearly all of the features in the software development kit (SDK) for its uEye industrial camera series. Because all uEye cameras use the same SDK, this option is available for both USB and Gigabit Ethernet models.

From the USB camera with VGA resolution to the 10-megapixel top model with Gigabit Ethernet connection and IP65/67 housing, all of the company’s cameras can be integrated quickly and easily with DirectShow. In addition to many consumer programs, all current industrial image processing software packages support the DirectShow interface, including LabView and Streampix.

Integrating cameras with DirectShow is popular in nonindustrial image processing. Applications range from interactive billboards with high-resolution Gigabit Ethernet cameras to amusement parks and robot assistants. This interface is also used in medical applications, in instrument manufacturing and in industry.

The DirectShow interface is an integral component of the uEye software package and is included in all of the company’s cameras or available for download free of charge at www.ueyesetup.de. For more demanding applications, the company offers the SDK mentioned above, in addition to other interfaces such as TWAIN, ActiveX and GenICam. This enables simple integration via C, C++ or C# under Windows and Linux, allowing all available camera features to be used to the fullest.
