IR ‘Eyes’ to See Back in Time
GREENBELT, Md., Dec. 30, 2009 – NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope’s Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI) detectors will see even further back in time than its predecessor, the Hubble Space Telescope, when it is sent into orbit in 2014. The Webb, the largest space observatory every constructed, will give astronomers their first glimpse into the evolution of the universe, when the first galaxies formed.
