Thermal cameras join hunt for poachers - LIGHT MATTERS 12.2016

Illegal hunting of animals in Africa has, for decades, threatened the existence of a number of species, from elephants and tortoises, to gorillas and tigers. Work by organizations such as the World Wildlife Fund have helped to curb this devastating practice, and now, FLIR Systems is joining the effort to stop poachers once and for all. Also on this month's show, we’ll learn how a tiny bird is helping with development of robots and next generation drones, we’ll take a look at the 2017 Prism Award finalists, and see what’s in store for the January issue of Photonics Spectra as we embark on a celebration of 50 years.
