Optical engineers and designers face many challenges. There is a diverse range of applications such as lighting, illumination, displays, sterilization, sensing and detection, solar, and many others. In addition, engineers face a shorter design cycle and faster time-to-market, as well as the need to meet relevant regulatory requirements. Designing, optimizing, and analyzing optical design and analysis programs gives engineers and designers the tools they need to be successful in this environment. In this talk, Jacobsen looks at some real-world examples where optical design and analysis software has been used to help solve problems and answer questions in a virtual environment.

About the presenter

Dave JacobsenDave Jacobsen is senior applications engineer and director of sales at Lambda Research Corporation with over 30 years of optical engineering experience. Jacobsen teaches training classes about software for design and analysis of illumination and optical systems, both in the US and worldwide. Prior to coming to Lambda Research Corporation, he worked as a Principal Optical Engineer at PerkinElmer, formerly EG&G, working with xenon flashlamp based systems for illumination, machine vision, UV sterilization, and process control, as well as designing spectroscopy systems for biomedical applications.
