Ultrathin Optics Fabrication

Thu, Apr 6, 2017 1:00P EDT

Presenter Kimani C. Toussaint, associate professor of Mechanical Science & Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, will speak on his lab's work to develop a simplified approach to producing flat, ultrathin optics using a plasmon-assisted etching technique.

Toussaint leads the PROBE lab group, which is part of the Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering at the University of Illinois. He earned his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Boston University. Prior to his work at the University of Illinois, Toussaint was an NSF Minority Postdoctoral Fellow in Biology at the University of Chicago, where he worked on interference microscopy, exotic polarization states and optical trapping.

Toussaint's group pursues interdisciplinary research in optical physics and engineering.
