About This Webinar
Swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) system performance is primarily determined by the rapid tuning speed and wide tuning bandwidth of the swept laser source, as well as the capabilities of the data acquisition (DAQ) electronics, such as sampling rate, data interface bandwidth, and onboard signal processing capabilities. Effectively integrating and optimizing these elements also requires careful attention to analog electronics design of photoreceivers and to optical design of interferometer and scanner components, while portability is typically desired for ease of clinical deployment and cost is inevitably a consideration for product commercialization. Add a substantial software undertaking, and SS-OCT system engineering from scratch is not for the faint of heart.

Kemp presents a preengineered SS-OCT imaging platform that consolidates the primary subcomponents (swept laser, photoreceiver, and DAQ) along with a variety of secondary components (variable delay and attenuation devices, visible aiming laser, fiber interferometer, etc.) in a compact package optimized for image quality, simplicity, cost, and reliability, while the system is flexible enough to accommodate a broad range of application-specific performance requirements (e.g., axial resolution, speed, and ranging depth), scanner interfaces, and imaging workflows. He discusses how this platform enables rapid proof-of-concept systems for exploring new SS-OCT applications, enhances time to clinic and time to market for new biomedical imaging devices, and broadens the practicality and utility of SS-OCT into untapped patient-care environments.
