About This Webinar
Industrial laser applications such as 3D printing and micromachining require a variety of scan systems to accommodate current market demands. A trade-off always exists between throughput, accuracy, and power handling. Throughput, for instance, requires small galvo mirrors, while power handling demands large mirrors. However, modern and future technologies can overcome some of the trade-offs and deliver throughput with accuracy and the ability to handle high power, or high peak power in the case of ultrafast lasers.

Schlüter discusses the existing and future technologies that can be used when developing a new galvanometer scan system aimed at addressing these challenges. He highlights the difference between analog and digital position detectors and compares several control algorithms and their impact on throughput and accuracy. Schlüter also discusses prospects to address other application challenges in the micromachining market, as well as applications leveraging high-power ultrashort-pulse lasers with modern technologies.
