The World Health Organization estimates that the number of people over age 60 will increase from 1 billion in the year 2019 to more than 2 billion in 2050, with life expectancy rising as well. Most of these people will live in heavily populated, low-income countries, with limited access to health care. Addressing the medical needs of the world’s aging population will require both a philosophical and a technological transformation.
