RGB sensors are calibrated to predict the indoor or outdoor ambient lighting conditions and are used to make appropriate corrections and trigger functions like auto adjusting display brightness. To do this effectively requires a smart calibration source. Calibrations with a tunable source that can simulate indoor and outdoor lighting can reduce misidentification of ambient light conditions, not solely based on the correlated color temperature (CCT), but rather true spectral response. Here we explore modeled source depended responses and the potential for misguided results.
