Engineering Emmys Presented

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences of New York recognized scientific accomplishments in the television industry at a ceremony Oct. 16, awarding 25 Emmys for Outstanding Achievement in Engineering Development. Photonics and related technologies were represented.

The National Academy awarded Emmys to Eastman Kodak Co., Hitachi, JVC, Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd. and Sony Corp. of America for their work in the development of consumer camcorders. Sony and Zenith were recognized for their development of flat-screen cathode-ray tube televisions. Sony, Kodak and Laser Pacific received awards for the development of 24-fps video.

On Aug. 22, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences of North Hollywood, Calif., presented its engineering Emmys. It recognized seven companies, including Cast Lighting Ltd. for its Wysiwyg software for the modeling of entertainment lighting, Panavision Inc. and Clairmont Camera for their lens systems, and daVinci Systems Inc. and Pandora International for their color tools.
