Fiberspace, Essex and Opticalis to Co-Market WDM

COLUMBIA, Md., July 24 -- Essex Corp., Fiberspace Inc. and Opticalis Inc. announced they have agreed to co-market their technologies: patent-pending hyperfine WDM from Essex, patented Gridlocker from Fiberspace and patent-pending Super Wavelength Creator from Opticalis. An Essex and Fiberspace co-marketing agreement was announced earlier this year.

UWDM is an optical network that promises to enable more revenue-generating wavelengths per fiber without significant new capital expenditures. Hyperfine WDM technology is the enabling optical filter that transmits and receives closely spaced wavelengths. Gridlocker is a tunable DFB laser that generates ultrastable wavelengths required for narrow channel spacings. Instead of using one laser per wavelength, Super Wavelength Creator generates multiple narrow-spaced wavelengths from a single laser.

"Widespread adoption of 25 GHz or less channel spacing using these technologies will lead to better network utilization and generate more revenue for carriers without expensive upgrades, an attractive business model for today’s telecom market," said Leonardo Berezovsky, chairman and CEO of Fiberspace.

The companies will synchronize their marketing efforts and collaborate on presentations, integrated demonstrations and technical papers. They will demonstrate the three technologies working together as an ultradense WDM system at the National Fiber Optics Engineers Conference in Dallas in September.
