DRS to Make Weapons-Test Cameras

PARSIPPANY, N.J. July 25 -- DRS Technologies Inc. has been awarded a new contract to produce high-speed digital cameras to support ground-based weapons testing. The contract, valued at approximately $2.7 million, is from the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division, Patuxent River Naval Air Station, Maryland.

DRS will develop a prototype for a universal-range camera body that will allow for common interfaces, electronics and data formats to be used for multiple sensor types. The design will be based on super high-speed video (SHV) cameras DRS developed and will support the Navy's digital video system development (DVSD) program. The universal-range camera body will be designed to facilitate common interfaces for command and control of many of the sensors for the military's ground-based weapons testing and evaluation community. The camera will be produced by the DRS Data & Imaging Systems unit in Oakland, N.J., with deliveries expected through January 2005.

The goal of the DVSD program is to make the transition from photographic film to digital video technology for capturing weapons test imagery, reducing test costs and time while improving the quality of test results.
