Chromux, NP Photonics to Market MEMS Products

LOS ANGELES, March 2 -- Chromux Technologies Inc., an Oxnard, Calif., developer of optics and microelectromechanical systems (MEMS)-based products for optical communications systems, announced it has reached a new agreement with NP Photonics, of Tucson, Ariz., to manufacture and market worldwide an optical channel monitoring and analysis product line based on a compliant MEMS technology licensed to Chromux by NP Photonics. The companies said they have been working closely to ensure a smooth transfer and continued customer support.
The core technology of the product line is a MEMS-based tunable filter module, a fast response, all-optical, Fabry-Perot interferometer designed for use in many different optical telecommunications and networking applications.
Chromux announced the agreement and introduced its expanded product line -- including reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexers, optical performance monitors for DWDM channel monitoring and PLC modules targeted at FTTP applications -- at the 2004 annual Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exposition (OFC), held last week in Los Angeles.
NP Photonics is using glass technology and a new compliant MEMs (CMEMs) technology to produce advanced optical components for the sensing and communications markets. The company is developing a family of components and subsystems based on proprietary glass fiber, CMEMs technology and intelligent controls.
