The Optical Internetworking Forum (OIF) in Fremont, Calif., has approved a multisource agreement-implementation agreement for integratable tunable laser assemblies. Known as ITLA-MSA, the contract specifies a compact, standardized form factor for incorporation into a 300-pin 3.5 × 4.5-in. transponder. The agreement simplifies the manufacture of the transponders and provides multiple sources for the same component.
