Sensors Unlimited Garners US Air Force Contract

Sensors Unlimited Inc. of Princeton, N.J., has been awarded a $750,000 Small Business Innovation Research grant from the US Air Force to research and design a communication device that can be added to the company's dual-wavelength visible InGaAs MiniCamera. The project will build on technology that enables the simultaneous imaging in two wavebands: visible and short-wave infrared. Sensors Unlimited's compact, lightweight camera is suitable for various helmet-mounted applications. The objectives of the Air Force project are to improve the instrument's sensitivity in the visible waveband, to reduce the camera's pixel pitch from 40 to 15 µm, and to enable it to function as a 1-GHz communications link by using a single pixel in the camera's detector array.
