William Burgess, vice president of operations at Power Technology Inc., a Little Rock, Ark., maker of laser diode products, was recently appointed a member of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Z136 accredited standards committee, which writes standards that protect against potential hazards associated with the use of lasers. The committee is comprised of organizations, companies, government agencies and individuals with a direct interest in the safe use of lasers. The majority of ASC Z136 committee members also serve on one or more of the standards and/or technical subcommittees, and Burgess has been approved for membership onto the Standards Subcommittee 1 (SSC-1) for Safe Use of Lasers. Power Technology's products have applications in the biomedical, analytical and industrial markets, including confocal microscopy, holography, cancer detection, Raman spectroscopy, high-resolution printing, telecommunications, LIDAR, analytical instrumentation, reprographics, metrology, interferometry, blood analysis and stereolithography.
