Pentagon Urges Cooperation on Weapons Planning with Allies in Europe, Japan

In an effort to coordinate a better defense among allied nations, the Pentagon has called for increased cooperation with Japan and Europe in the production of new weapons, including remote sensors.
US Undersecretary of Defense Jacques Gansler said allies must have weapons that are compatible with one another. To illustrate, he pointed to remote sensing used to detect full-scale cruise missile
attacks. Because different countries use different technologies with no central point of command, it would be difficult to defend such an attack. He suggested manufacturing alliances and sharing technology.
