Corning Inc. of Corning, N.Y., announced today that it will become the first LCD glass substrate supplier with a production facility on the China mainland, choosing the Beijing Economic Technological Development Area for its new location. The amount of funding for the project was not disclosed. Corning said it typically begins operations in a new region with glass finishing and then assesses the need for other operations at a later date, based on market and customer demand.
