FILTERS/FLUOROPHORES

OmegaOptical_NewCurvomatic.jpgOmega Optical Inc. has enhanced its online Curv-o-matic tool, an interactive database of filter and filter set spectral curves that includes fluorophore absorption and emission spectra. It has introduced new fluorophores, including fluorescent proteins and quantum dots, and has added light source data for arc lamps, lasers and LEDs. Search features have been improved, and it is now possible to choose up to three fluorophores at one time. Designed for optical instrument and experimental design, the tool contains information on more than 500 filter components, 200 filter sets and approximately 300 fluorophores. Filter data is available to download as an ASCII file, and all filters, including excitation, dichroic and emission types, are linked to an e-commerce store.

Glossary
fluorophore
A fluorophore is a molecule or a portion of a molecule that has the ability to emit light upon excitation by an external energy source, such as ultraviolet or visible light. The process by which a fluorophore absorbs and then re-emits light is known as fluorescence. Fluorophores are widely used in various scientific and technological applications, including fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, medical imaging, and molecular biology. Key features of fluorophores include: Excitation and...
