Advanced Medical Optics Inc. of Santa Ana, Calif., and Alcon Inc. of Hünenberg, Switzerland, have signed a patent cross-licensing agreement for lubricious coatings for intraocular lens (IOL) inserters and one-piece IOL haptic designs. The American company will pay $10 million and will grant a license for two of its US patents to the Swiss company, which will pay $31 million and grant a license for one of its US patents in return.
