Nanopositioning Stages

PINano.jpgPI (Physik Instrumente) LP has extended its line of piezo stages for superresolution microscopy to include the nano series nanopositioning stages. Featuring a low profile of 20 mm and a large aperture, they deliver highly accurate motion with subnanometre resolution in two and three axes. The instruments are suitable for scanning and single-molecule microscopy, for three-dimensional imaging, for auto-focussing, and for scanning and alignment tasks in bionanotechnology. A piezo controller is included and comes with a 24-bit USB port, and Ethernet, RS-232 and analog interfaces, and software support for all major image acquisition packages. The stages can be supplemented with the company’s M-545 manual X-Y microscope stage.

Glossary
superresolution
Superresolution refers to the enhancement or improvement of the spatial resolution beyond the conventional limits imposed by the diffraction of light. In the context of imaging, it is a set of techniques and algorithms that aim to achieve higher resolution images than what is traditionally possible using standard imaging systems. In conventional optical microscopy, the resolution is limited by the diffraction of light, a phenomenon described by Ernst Abbe's diffraction limit. This limit sets a...
