Cooperative Agreement

Photonics Spectra
Aug 2010
Optical design software maker Optical Research Associates of Pasadena, Calif., and Rochester, N.Y.-based QED Technologies, a finishing and metrology products provider to the precision optics industry, have announced a cooperative agreement that will integrate QED’s aspheric characterization formulations into Optical Research’s CODE V software to facilitate easier design, analysis and tolerancing of aspheric surfaces. By combining their strengths in optical software and optics manufacturing, the companies will provide optical design and fabrication communities with a robust, effective tool for manufacturing aspheres, from concept to completion.

Not spherical; an optical element having one or more surfaces that are not spherical. The spherical surface of a lens may be slightly altered so as to reduce spherical aberration. Aspheric surfaces are frequently, but not necessarily, surfaces of revolution about the lens axis.
