SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 14, 2010 — Osram Opto Semiconductors announced that Aldo Kamper will succeed Dr. Rüdiger Müller as its president and CEO, effective Oct. 1, 2010.

After 22 years heading the optoelectronic semiconductor business at Osram and formerly at Siemens, Müller will retire. Kamper, an LED expert and time-tested executive is anticipated to advance the company, said Martin Goetzeler, CEO of parent company, Osram.

Kamper began his career at Osram in 1994, and between 1999 and 2006, he held executive positions at Osram Opto Semiconductors in the automotive and visible LED fields. Since 2006, Kamper has served as executive vice president and general manager of specialty lighting at Osram Sylvania.

With Müller’s retirement, the company will mark an end to his era in LED technology. He headed the optoelectronic semiconductor business at Siemens from 1988, and, in 1999, was a founding CEO of Osram Opto Semiconductors, in which Siemens’ LED and infrared business was pooled with Osram’s lighting competence. Under his leadership, crucial innovations emerged, including thin-film technology, direct blue or green semiconductor laser diodes, the first OLED product and the first surface-mountable LED.

Osram Opto Semiconductors manufactures optoelectronic semiconductors for the lighting, sensor and visualization sectors.

Glossary
optoelectronic
Pertaining to a device that responds to optical power, emits or modifies optical radiation, or utilizes optical radiation for its internal operation. Any device that functions as an electrical-to-optical or optical-to-electrical transducer. Electro-optic often is used erroneously as a synonym.
siemens
The electric conductance of a conductor in which a current of 1 ampere is produced by an electric potential difference of 1 volt.
thin film
A thin layer of a substance deposited on an insulating base in a vacuum by a microelectronic process. Thin films are most commonly used for antireflection, achromatic beamsplitters, color filters, narrow passband filters, semitransparent mirrors, heat control filters, high reflectivity mirrors, polarizers and reflection filters.
