LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Oct. 13, 2010 — With the launch of their “More and Better Jobs for Arkansas Initiative,” Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe and State Representative Shane Broadway toured Power Technology Inc. of Alexander, a laser diode products manufacturer.

The Governor spent more than an hour on a guided tour of the 25,000 sq. ft. facility, where he examined the engineering and production areas, reviewed the quality control process and procedures, and examined parts being made in the company’s machine shop, said Walter Burgess, vice president of sales and engineering at Power Technology.

“We demonstrated to Governor Beebe that the benefits to manufacturing in Arkansas are reflected in our focus on short lead times and the customization that helps assure the success of our customer’s projects,” said Burgess.

The privately-held, home-grown Arkansas business has been in the photonics industry for over 40 years.

“Power Technology Inc. is precisely the kind of high-tech business that the state needs to attract and nurture,” said Beebe. “Mainly what I am doing is celebrating an Arkansas success story. This is the kind of thing that we’ve been talking about for a long time—the jobs of tomorrow. We need more businesses and industries like this to be competitive.”
