The Colorado Photonics Industry Association (CPIA) has named Research Electro-Optics (REO) as the 2010 Colorado Photonics Company of the Year. The award was presented to Terry Moshier, chairman, CEO and president of REO, at the CPIA annual meeting on Nov. 17, 2010.

The Photonics Company of the Year award is bestowed upon a company or institution that the CPIA feels has contributed the most to the Colorado photonics industry over the preceding year.

REO, a precision optics and thin film coating company, was selected from more than 240 companies in the aerospace, renewable energy, defense, security, medical and life sciences, biotech, telecommunications and electronic industries, which are involved in photonics.

“Since its inception, REO has established its reputation as a supplier of exceptional optical coatings and precision components,” said Brian Knollenberg, CPIA board member. “Over the past few years, the company has grown significantly, leading to a substantial increase in staff, and the acquisition and expansion of new manufacturing and technology assets.”

“We are honored to have been chosen as the Colorado Photonics Company of the Year,” said Moshier. “The recognition being bestowed to REO goes to our employees and their achievements in serving our customers.”

CPIA is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to encouraging cooperation, collaboration and partnerships among the 250 industrial, academic and governmental organization in Colorado involved in optics and photonics technologies.

electronics
That branch of science involved in the study and utilization of the motion, emissions and behaviors of currents of electrical energy flowing through gases, vacuums, semiconductors and conductors, not to be confused with electrics, which deals primarily with the conduction of large currents of electricity through metals.
optical coatings
Optical coatings are thin layers of materials applied to optical components, such as lenses, mirrors, filters, and prisms, to modify their reflective and transmissive properties. These coatings are designed to enhance the performance of optical systems by controlling the way light interacts with the surfaces of the components. The primary purposes of optical coatings include: Antireflection coating: This type of coating is designed to reduce reflections from the surfaces of optical...
photonics
The technology of generating and harnessing light and other forms of radiant energy whose quantum unit is the photon. The science includes light emission, transmission, deflection, amplification and detection by optical components and instruments, lasers and other light sources, fiber optics, electro-optical instrumentation, related hardware and electronics, and sophisticated systems. The range of applications of photonics extends from energy generation to detection to communications and...
