Carl Zeiss Delivers Periscopes to Canadian Troops

Carl Zeiss Optronics GmbH announced it will deliver stabilized panorama periscopes to the Canadian armed forces.

The Peri R17 A2 periscope is equipped with an Attica, a third generation thermal imager that provides the commander of the Leopard 2 with a night vision capability for long ranges.

The periscope is currently undergoing trials in other user states.

periscope
An optical instrument designed to displace the line of sight in a vertical direction. For submarines and other military uses the periscope is a long tube containing prisms at both ends and intervening imaging and relaying lenses. Several anatomical inspection devices such as cystoscopes, laryngoscopes and otoscopes use similar optical systems, though on a minuscule scale.
