Indian Solar Industry Needs A Boost

Feb. 18, 2011 — First up, I will be attending the Renewtech 2011 show this week to be held at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, Goregaon (East), Mumbai, India. It has the theme: 'Cutting Edge Technologies for Speedy Development of Renewable Energy in India’.

Renewtech India 2011 presents yet another opportunity for the Indian renewable energy segment and other emerging technologies. It is well known that the Indian market represents a huge opportunity waiting to be grabbed. Renewtech India 2011 provides the opportunity to build brand awareness, and network with the Indian renewable energy industry players.

The exhibition cum conference is supported by leading industry players and industry associations. The organizers – MCO-Winmark Exhibitions Pvt Ltd – expect the event to grow to the size of a global event that attracts the who's who of the industry and defines what the future will or should be!

On the opening day, Feb. 17Th, the show kicks off with Indra Mohan, president, India Tech Foundation. There is a special address by H.E. Dr. Leopold-Theodor Heldman, Consul General of Germany, Mumbai. This will likely be followed by an inaugural address delivered by Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Union Minister of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE).

The afternoon session will focus on Financing of Renewable Energy Projects. Shashi Shekhar, joint secretary, MNRE, will present the lead presentation. There will be an expert from IREDA as well as an expert from PFC, who will be presenting their reports. This segment also has presentations from Oskar Von Maltzan, director, KfW Bankengruppe, Sanjay Mandavkar, ED-Infrastructure Banking Group,YES Bank and Noam Ben-Ozer, MD and co-founder, Focal Energy.

Day 2 will see the first session on Bio-Mass, Biogas and Waste-to-Energy, with industry luminaries such as Dr. N.P. Singh, advisor (Bio-Energy), MNRE, Dr. Nitant Mate, Head - Green Technology Cell, Kirloskar Integrated Technologies, who will present on Off-Grid Energy Solutions Using Biogas and Hybrids.

K.C. Khandelwal, consultant (ex-advisor, MNRE), will present on the domestic biogas situation in India, on Challenges In The Context Of Changing Rural Economy And Ecology. There will be other presentations by K. Krishan, chairman, MPPL Renewable Energy, on Bio Waste to Bio Energy & Organic Fertiliser, D.C. Bhishikar, MD, Clarke Energy, on Application of Gas Generated from Waste Treatment For Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Solutions using Jenbacher Gas Engine Technology.

There will also be a session titled: Solar Energy & Hybrids, will focus a lot of interesting speeches, such as solar airconditioning, monitoring for better monetization and implementation, solar energy…down to earth (solar concentrating technologies), and building a robust ecosystem for solar energy In India.
