Crystal Grower Receives 59 Orders from Asia

SANTA ROSA, Calif., Feb. 22, 2011 — Thermal Technology announced it received 59 orders for its Model K1 90 kg sapphire crystal grower from customers in Taiwan, Korea and China. In total, the growers will produce 5.2 million two-in-equivalents per year.

The Model K1 sapphire crystal grower outperforms other sapphire crystal methods currently being marketed, including the HEM and Bridgman, the company said. It is intended for LED substrate production. With a short cycle time, it is the most productive grower commercially available.

Because of its high demand, the company is shipping systems out weekly.

The sapphire crystals are used as substrate wafers for high brightness blue and white LEDs, which are employed for various uses including traffic lights, backlighting for flat panel displays of computer monitors, TVs and cell phones, and for common lighting applications such as street lights and household bulbs.

Thermal Technology manufactures crystal growing systems and high temperature vacuum and controlled atmosphere furnaces for the advanced processing of metals, ceramics, glass and quartz.
