Edmund Optics Education Grants Go Global
Edmund Optics announced that its Third Annual Higher Education Grant program has been expanded to include university optics programs in Europe as well as in the Americas and Asia. The program will donate products totaling more than $60,000.
This year, grants totaling €10,000 in products will be given to university programs in Europe. A trip to Vision 2011 in Stuttgart, Germany, will also be awarded. Prizes worth $22,500 will be offered in the Americas, and products worth $22,500 will be distributed in Asia.
The three American grants will support outstanding undergraduate and graduate optics programs in science, technology, engineering and mathematics at nonprofit colleges and universities. The first grant will be valued at $10,000, the second at $7,500, and the third at $5,000.
Criteria for eligibility include the number of courses offered and the number of students involved in the study of optics, specific projects, and the types of products that would be most useful.

The first grant, for $5,000, was given in 2009 to Monash University School of Physics in Victoria, Australia, for its optical and astronomical research and teaching programs. National Chiao Tung University in Taiwan received the award in 2010, which was valued at $10,000.
