Opsens Inc. of Quebec City has filed a patent application for the OptoWire, a second diagnostic tool to assess coronary lesions by performing fractional flow reserve measurement. The company’s in-house team has been developing OptoWire in parallel with EasyWire, also used in fractional flow reserve. The latter was unveiled in December 2010. The OptoWire is a guide wire with a fiber optic pressure sensor that is drift-free and that provides high-fidelity measurement of blood pressure in coronary arteries. It offers better mechanical performance in terms of trackability, torquability and support over existing pressure guide wires, according to the company.
