REDMOND, Wash., & SINGAPORE, April 26, 2011 — Ultraminiature display technology provider MicroVision announced the opening of a research and development center at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. The facility will focus on the development of breakthrough products using MicroVision’s PicoP display technology.

By 2012, the company plans to staff the center with up to 25 engineers, who will work on advanced research and development projects, perform operational support functions, and build upon its current portfolio of more than 500 patents issued and pending.

MicroVision plans to leverage NTU’s strength and expertise in engineering, microelectronics and materials science, collaborating with faculty and students. The alliance is expected to facilitate the exchange of ideas between NTU staff and students and MicroVision personnel, as well as provide possible internship opportunities for students.

The R&D center includes a customized laboratory at NTU’s Innovation Centre. The company will work directly with the electrical and electronic engineering school and with the physics department.

MicroVision has collaborated with universities and institutions across the world, including Stanford, MIT and Fraunhofer Institute.

In the past few years, NTU has established industry partners such as Rolls-Royce, Robert Bosch, Thales and Toray.
