Multispectral imaging systems provider FluxData Inc. of Rochester, N.Y., has licensed from the Rochester Institute of Technology Patent No. 7,554,586, titled “System and Method for Scene Image Acquisition and Spectral Estimation Using a Wide-Band Multi-Channel Image Capture.” Developed at the Munsell Color Science Lab at the institute, the technology will allow FluxData to develop low-cost, highly color accurate camera systems for the defense and security, surveillance, entertainment, medical and life sciences, industrial vision and agricultural markets. The company plans to introduce the technology in a new line of Better Color camera systems and software applications in the third quarter of 2011. It will integrate the Better Color technology into its existing FD-1665 3-CCD multispectral camera product line.

Multispectral Imaging: Creation of an image where each pixel contains more than three spectral data points, typically four to 20. This is contrasted with a standard color camera that only captures three spectral data points (called RGB), or hyperspectral cameras, which capture hundreds of spectral data points.
