Interns Provide Optimax with Fresh Ideas

ONTARIO, N.Y., July 19, 2011 — On the path to lifelong learning, eight students have joined Optimax Systems Inc. as summer interns to work on research and engineering projects.

With training and education in emerging technologies, the interns — two high school and six college students — are expected to provide the company with a fresh outlook and a drive for continuous improvement. They will work on polishing and manufacturing time studies as well as on an analysis of slope on an optical surface.

The company said it targets every intern and co-op to work on projects that affect the bottom line. It also said that multiple full-time roles have been filled by past interns, including opportunities as opticians and technicians, and positions in IT, coating and maintenance.

The program has been in existence for more than 11 years, and the company said it tracks information from the program for its own knowledge as well as for submission to FAME (Finger Lakes Advanced Manufacturers’ Enterprise). The latter tracks the information for the regional manufacturers and submits it to receive grant funding.

Optimax provides rapid prototyping of precision optical components in sizes up to 300 mm.
