Robert Edmund was named a finalist in the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2012 program in the Greater Philadelphia region, according to optical components provider Edmund Optics.

The award recognizes outstanding entrepreneurs who demonstrate excellence and extraordinary success in the areas of innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities.

Edmund, the son of founder Norman Edmund, has expertise in business strategy, and optical manufacturing and product development as well as global catalog marketing. Under his leadership, the company has expanded to more than 700 employees worldwide servicing more than 200,000 global customers through 12 regional offices.

“To be named a finalist in one of the most prestigious business awards is beyond gratifying,” Edmund said. “It is a thrill and a great honor to be recognized for outstanding performance and commitment to the business, our employees and the community as a whole. I have always been inspired by the entrepreneurial spirit and success of others and feel privileged to offer inspiration and vision to the next generation of entrepreneurs.”

The program, now in its 26th year, has expanded to recognize business leaders in more than 140 cities in more than 50 countries. Regional award winners are eligible for consideration for the Ernst & Young National Entrepreneur of the Year program.

Award winners for several national categories, as well as the Ernst & Young National Entrepreneur of the Year Overall Award winner, will be announced Nov. 17 at an annual awards gala in Palm Springs, Calif.

The Greater Philadelphia award winners will be recognized June 21 at a special gala at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia.
