Coherent’s Ophthalmic Laser Sales Exceed 10,000

SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 21, 2012 — Laser-based solutions company Coherent Inc. announced that it has now shipped more than 10,000 lasers for ophthalmic therapeutic applications.

Included are a mixture of pulsed excimer ultraviolet lasers for lasik vision correction and continuous-wave solid-state lasers with green or yellow output for use in photocoagulation to treat wet-form age-related macular degeneration.

The shipments reflect Coherent’s strong sales performance in medical laser therapeutic applications and in areas of the ophthalmic market, including lasers for diagnostic applications such as retinal scanning, the company said.
