Jerry W. Kuper has joined Toptica Photonics as senior product manager for North America.

"Dr. Kuper will be an exciting new step for Toptica in North America," said President and CEO Mark A. Tolbert. "We will now bring a local emphasis on product development in the United States."

Kuper will provide local support for the diode laser company's products and applications. He co-founded Snake Creek Lasers in 2003 and served as senior scientist and consultant. He also previously held positions at Exfo Burleigh Instruments Inc., Laser Energetics Inc., Allied-Signal Inc. and TRW Inc.

Kuper has performed R&D and produced commercial products that employ various nonlinear techniques, including stimulated Brillouin scattering, stimulated Raman scattering and nonlinear frequency conversion, from the infrared to the deep ultraviolet. He also has developed alexandrite laser systems for military, commercial and medical applications and has knowledge of neodymium-based solid-state laser systems and their harmonic conversion to various visible and UV wavelengths.

Kuper is a co-inventor on 17 US patents and has five provisional patent applications. He is also the co-author of over 40 conference papers and journal publications and been an active member of The Optical Society since 1976.

alexandrite lasers
An alexandrite laser is a solid-state laser that utilizes a synthetic crystal made from the rare earth element alexandrite (BeAl2O4:Cr3+). This crystal is capable of emitting laser light in the near-infrared spectrum, typically around 755 nanometers. Alexandrite lasers are known for their versatility and are widely used in various medical, cosmetic, and scientific applications. alexandrite laser suppliers → One of the primary advantages of alexandrite lasers is their ability to...
photonics
The technology of generating and harnessing light and other forms of radiant energy whose quantum unit is the photon. The science includes light emission, transmission, deflection, amplification and detection by optical components and instruments, lasers and other light sources, fiber optics, electro-optical instrumentation, related hardware and electronics, and sophisticated systems. The range of applications of photonics extends from energy generation to detection to communications and...
stimulated brillouin scattering
In Stimulated Brillouin Scattering (SBS), an incident photon (usually laser light) interacts with acoustic phonons in a medium. The energy and momentum of the incident photon are transferred to the acoustic phonons, resulting in the creation of a scattered photon with a slightly different frequency (Stokes shift). Another scattered photon, called the anti-Stokes photon, can also be generated with a frequency higher than that of the incident photon. SBS is particularly important in the...
