GigOptix Adds Photonic Packaging Architect

SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 21, 2013 — Photonics integration veteran Giovanni Delrosso has been appointed senior photonic packaging and integration architect at GigOptix Inc., an advanced semiconductor and optical communications components supplier.

Delrosso, with nearly 30 years of photonics packaging and integration experience, will lead GigOptix’s established advanced optical and radio frequency integration initiatives and will help the company to accelerate the integration of next-generation optical transceivers, said Dr. Raluca Dinu, general manager and vice president of the optics and radio frequency product line. He will be based in Berlin at the company’s subsidiary GigOptix GmbH.

Before joining the company, Delrosso held senior packaging technology adviser and product development positions at COGO Optronics in Berlin. He also has worked in R&D project management roles at Pirelli Labs and Cisco Systems with a focus on optoelectronic packaging technologies. Since 1989, he has volunteered for IMAPS (International Microelectronics and Packaging Society) and IEEE-CPMT (Components, Packaging and Manufacturing Technology) societies, and was president of IMAPS Europe and the European liaison committee from 2011 to 2013.

Delrosso is also a visiting researcher at the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute for the company’s terabyte photonic module developments.
