Peter Call has been named field sales manager at CoolLED Ltd., an LED lighting products manufacturer based in Andover, England. Experienced in microscopy and imaging, he will be responsible for customers in Central and Eastern Europe.





Idex Optics & Photonics has appointed Michael Tenalio as director of global product management at Melles Griot Optical Systems Group, its business unit in Rochester, N.Y. He will grow the company’s business in the life sciences, semiconductor, industrial, and safety and security markets.





Specialty photonic packaging company PD-LD Inc. of Pennington, N.J., a developer of volume Bragg grating technology, has appointed Uri Abrams and Richard J. Capalbo to its board of directors. Abrams is the president of the company, and Capalbo heads a consulting firm that gives corporations access to all aspects of the financial services industry.





Scotland-based PowerPhotonic Ltd. has hired laser micro-optics industry veteran Jason Alexander as head of North American operations to manage the company’s growth across the continent. He will work from the company’s new micro-optics customer and technical support center in Pleasanton, Calif.





Alain Couder has retired from the position of chairman and CEO of Oclaro Inc. of San Jose, Calif. The laser and optical components company has appointed board members Greg Dougherty and Marissa Peterson as CEO and chairwoman, respectively. Dougherty has substantial experience in leadership, operations, sales, marketing and general management in the optical and laser industries. Peterson was an executive at Sun Microsystems Inc. and currently serves as a director for three companies.

Doug Wright has been appointed president and CEO of Source Photonics, an optical communication products supplier based in Chatsworth, Calif. He succeeds Dr. Near Margalit, who has taken the newly created position of chief product officer.





California-based Asylum Research, an Oxford Instruments company, has appointed Dr. Ben Ohler as its atomic force microscopy business manager. In the newly created position, he will oversee the Asylum MFP-3D product line, including development and marketing.





Toptica Photonics Inc. of Victor, N.Y., has named Kurt Van Hout as director of OEM sales in North America. His experience includes commercial sales and OEM business development in the optics industry.





Thermal imaging systems manufacturer Flir Systems Inc. of Portland, Ore., has promoted Thomas A. Surran to president of its Commercial Systems Div. and Jeffrey D. Frank to vice president of global strategy.
