Laser Helmet for Thinning Hair Launches in U.S.

PLEASANTON, Calif., Dec. 17, 2013 — The first clinical-level laser hair restoration product — the Theradome Laser Helmet LH80 PRO — is now available for in-home treatment of thinning hair and male pattern baldness, maker Theradome said this week.

The product has been cleared by the US Food & Drug Administration and is available for over-the-counter sales. The cordless helmet uses laser light therapy used in dermatologists’ offices and hair restoration clinics to grow new hair, while doubling the follicle size of existing hair and slowing down or stopping hair loss, Theradome said.

“Temporary, hereditary or long-term hair loss is a medical condition that is faced by both men and women,” said Tamim Hamid, Ph.D., founder and CEO of Theradome, and a former NASA scientist at the Kennedy Space Center. “In fact, 40 percent of women have thinning hair. Hair transplants, ineffective oral drugs with side effects, and clinical-level hair treatments can cost several thousand dollars and clearly, are not an option for everyone.”

With its 80 lasers that provide over 560 mW of low laser light therapy, the helmet stimulates the scalp and hair follicles by increasing blood flow and microcirculation, improving cellular metabolism and protein synthesis to restore and maintain a healthy head of hair, the company said.

When used twice a week for 20 minutes per session, the Theradome Laser Helmet can slow down hair loss after 18 treatments, provide healthier hair and scalp after 26 treatments, grow new hair after 52 treatments, and provide fuller, thicker hair after 100 treatments, the company said.
