Photon Technology Joins Horiba Scientific

EDISON, N.J., Feb. 12, 2014 — Horiba Scientific has acquired Photon Technology International (PTI) as part of its scientific segment.

The move will expand Horiba’s presence in the biomedical field, as PTI is a leading supplier of microscopy-based spectrofluorometers used for intracellular ion imaging in university and research labs as well as for the industrial and biomedical markets.

“The addition of PTI extends our market leadership in fluorescence spectroscopy,” said Steve Slutter, president of Horiba Scientific.

Charles Marianik, president of PTI, added that joining Horiba is an important next step toward expanding PTI’s global reach.

fluorescence
The emission of light or other electromagnetic radiation of longer wavelengths by a substance as a result of the absorption of some other radiation of shorter wavelengths, provided the emission continues only as long as the stimulus producing it is maintained. In other words, fluorescence is the luminescence that persists for less than about 10-8 s after excitation.
