Coherent Inc. of Santa Clara, Calif., plans to acquire the remaining 75 percent interest in Microlase Ltd. of Glasgow, UK. Coherent currently owns Microlase Optical Systems Ltd. and is a distributor for Microlase. The company will be renamed Coherent Scotland Ltd.

Microlase produces solid-state lasers for applications in scientific research and semiconductor testing. It has developed single-frequency, deep-UV sources for next-generation semiconductor testing and data storage.
