FBGS Technologies GmbH has partnered with FAZ Technology Ltd. of Dublin, Ireland, a manufacturer of ultrahigh-resolution measurement devices for fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors.

The partnership gives FBGS exclusive rights to commercialize the FAZT interrogator platform for the international medical market.

"Aligning with FAZ Technology gives our customers a unique access to a cutting-edge technology that perfectly complements our existing interrogator portfolio, and opens new opportunities in the medical market for the current and next-generation of FBG sensors," said Eric Lindner, CEO of FBGS.

The FAZT interrogators were developed for a leading end-user of optical sensors and are the first sensor interrogators based on a proven telecommunications tunable laser platform, according to FBGS. Integrated electronics and embedded software allows the user to quickly adapt the performance parameters to fit many sensor configurations.

High-speed data acquisition and on-board data processing enable real-time measurement with wavelength precision down to 0.1 pm at 1 kHz.

Access to the interrogator platform will allow FBGS to launch next-generation, turnkey fiber optic sensing solutions based on new technology for strain-independent temperature monitoring, high-resolution localized shape sensing and 3D force sensing.

"Due to their unique product portfolio and strong market knowledge, FBGS is in excellent position to develop this market for us," said Johannes Singer, CEO of FAZ Technology. "The combination of both of our complementary products will also bring new sensing capabilities forward to the medical industry and beyond."

FBGS develops high-strength fiber Bragg grating sensors using draw-tower technology. FAZ Technology is a developer of high-end optical sensing systems and solutions. It is a subsidiary of Fugro NV of the Netherlands.
