Scott Jackson has been named vice president of Infinera Corp.'s underwater fiber optics division.

Jackson has more than 31 years of experience in directing teams from concept to delivery over a range of technology areas, and has successfully delivered large subsystems into multibillion-dollar deployments.

He has been involved in undersea fiber systems since their genesis, including work on TAT-8, the world's first transoceanic optic cable, connecting North America and Europe. He spent 18 years at Bell Labs Submarine Systems, later Tyco Undersea Systems, where he led the development of undersea repeaters and undersea terminal equipment as managing director.

His group created designs for the first optically amplified repeaters, terminals incorporating forward error correction, remote-pump terminals and wavelength division multiplexing terminals. Jackson was also vice president of engineering for Kodeos Communications, vice president of engineering for Defense Photonics Group and, most recently, chief technical officer for 4D Security Solutions.
