The World Economic Forum, a nonprofit foundation headquartered in Geneva, named Heliatek one its 49 “Technology Pioneers” in 2015. Notable members of the award’s selection committee included Arianna Huffington of the Huffington Post and Henry Blodget of Business Insider. The committee based its decisions on criteria including innovation, potential impact, working prototype, viability and leadership. Past recipients include Google, Wikimedia, Mozilla, Kickstarter and Dropbox.

Heliatek’s 1-mm-thick HeliaFilms offer decentralized, decarbonized solar energy harvesting, said CEO Thibaud Le Séguillon.

“It is highly disruptive to the current energy model of large, polluting, CO2 emitting electricity producers by offering clean, local energy generation,” Le Séguillon said.

After the market entry of HeliaFilm integrated with building materials such as glass and concrete, the company has also entered the PVC-membrane segment with a partner.
