Agilent Completes Acquisition of Silicon Micro Systems
Apr 2001
PALO ALTO, Calif., April 3 – Agilent Technologies Inc. has completed its acquisition of Gefran Silicon Micro Systems S.r.l., a fiber optic technology laboratory, for about $55 million in cash. The acquisition was made through Agilent's subsidiary, Turin Technology Center (TTC), based in Turin, Italy. Gefran Silicon Micro Systems S.r.l. was an operation of Gefran Sensori S.r.l., a subsidiary of Gefran S.p.A., of Provaglio d'Iseo, Italy.

The acquisition of Silicon Micro Systems, based in northern Italy, is part of Agilent's ongoing investment in the high-growth area of fiber optics. It adds capabilities that are expected to afford Agilent time-to-market advantages in its expanding fiber optic component offerings.

Silicon Micro Systems is now part of TTC, which focuses on fiber optic technology used in communications networks. TTC is an operation within the Network Solutions Division of Agilent's Semiconductor Products Group.
