Nortel Networks and Corning Inc. are demonstrating an innovative dense wavelength division multiplexing metro optical solution at PT SUPERCOMM Asia 2001 this week in Shanghai. This solution features 50 km of Corning MetroCor optical fiber operating in the C-band at 2.5 Gb/s over Nortel Networks OPTera Metro 5200 system. The demonstration will be available to the civilian public from April 25-28 during exhibition hours in both the Corning (Booth #1C00) and Nortel Networks exhibits (Booth #1C01).
    Finisar Corp., a provider of fiber optic solutions for high-speed data networks, announced that it is shipping a 1000BASE-T Copper GBIC transceiver module, the FCM-8519-3. Utilizing Marvell's Alaska Gigabit Ethernet over copper PHY IC, the company's new GBIC transceiver allows networking equipment manufacturers to support Gigabit Ethernet links over existing Category 5 Unshielded Twisted Pair cabling, up to a distance of 100 meters.
    Jay Standish, a nationally and internationally known ophthalmic marketing executive for almost twenty years, has joined Irvine-based Medennium as the vice president of marketing and sales. Prior to joining Medennium, Standish held several high-level management positions with Bausch and Lomb.
